Carlos Tevez, has been dropped by the new Shanghai Shenhua caretaker manager for being ‘overweight’.
The Argentine forward moved to the Chinese club last December for a figure around £71 million from Boca Juniors, earning himself a contract worth a reported £634,000 a week which saw him overtake Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest paid footballer.
Wu Jingui, the new caretaker manager of Shanghai Shenhua, has not been impressed with Tevez’s commitment.
“I will not pick him right now. He’s not ready physically. He’s not fit to play.
“If you are unable do your utmost to play, there’s no point in picking you. I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation.”
Earlier in the season, Tevez was made to promise in writing to return to the club’s training after flying to Argentina to receive treatment for a calf injury in August.
Tevez has had an underwhelming time since joining the financial powerhouse of the Chinese Super League scoring only twice in 12 appearances.
